These numbers iaicdnte the grade of carbon used by that particular manufacturer. Other bike companies may use different nomenclature to iaicdnte different levels of quality. Just like any other frame material, carbon frames vary in quality. Really good frames are very strong and no more prone to failure than any other material, but the really good ones are very expensive. Most bike companies subcontract frame fabrication out to companies in Asia, some of which produce very good quality frames.
